My summer is in full swing with a lot of trips to the beach and soaking in all the wonderful family memories before my two oldest head off to college. They are both fall college athletes so we only have a few short weeks that we will all be home as a family. One of my sons is a football player, so it is unlikely that he will be able to come home from college for Thanksgiving, so after these next few weeks, the next time we will be together is Christmas. I can’t even wrap my head around that right now! A few weeks from now, my post may be filled with tears. Both happy that they are fulfilling their dreams, but tears because I can’t even tell you how much they will be missed. I better stop writing about that before I get too emotional so lets get talk flowers 😉
In our home we have 2 Living rooms. One is our family room where we all hang out and the dog is allowed to be free & the other room we call the sitting room.
In this post I want to share the ways that flowers refresh a room.
Let’s start with the sitting room:
These roses are from a local flower shop in my town. I bought a dozen and separated them in a few mason jar flower vases. I did a quick fun tutorial on how I made them here.
The couches and chairs are from IKEA. Everyone asks me how I can have white furniture. Well, one of the joys of IKEA furniture is that it is all slip covers & they are machine washable!
I never wanted to have a “grandmother room” you know the room where it was too pretty to sit in? So even though this is white, it is well loved and warn!
This little coffee table we found at a local shop in New Hampshire called Company C.
This room has a gas fire place, the insert is so ugly, guys! It ruins every picture. I have been experimenting with painting it, but haven’t figured out a good color yet!
If you read my Summer Refresh a Room post last week, you may remember I added faux flowers in a crate. Well, these are also faux hydrangeas from Peir 1. They really do look real! I love them.
Here is a closer picture of the art work from Elizabeth at White Cottage Art on Instagram.
We found this awesome antique chippy side table at an antique store in Portsmouth New Hampshire
Now on to the family room
I bought a small bouquet of flowers at my grocery store & picked some from my garden. First, I separated them according to type and put them in mason jars.
This galvanized and wood tray that is super fun to decorate with! I have also used it for parties. I used it at the candy bar at my son’s grad party. I also used it for a hot chocolate station in the winter when my daughter had some friends over.
But check out how perfect it is to fill with flowers:
You can read the story about my vintage trunk in another blog post. If you want to read about it, you can check it out here.
Some day I have to share a post on our Kitchen. That was one of the first projects we worked on when we bought this home almost 3 years ago.
This Family room used to be the kitchen!
Maybe I should keep the flowers here on my rope table, what do you think?
Ok, let’s recap tips for refreshing a room for Summer:
Add fresh flowers or quality faux flowers! A florist, the grocery store, your own garden! Nothing says, “Happy Summer” than a arrangement of flowers!
Go follow me on pinterest! I love hanging out there, I made a pin for you below!
I hope your summer is full of fun & flowers,
